Description

Otto Bock is a leading global supplier of innovative products for people with limited mobility.

The vision is to excel as the global leader in maintaining and restoring human independence. The branch in Vienna is a subsidiary of Otto Bock HealthCare GmbH - a quality- and success-oriented Medtech company with headquarters in Duderstadt, Germany.

The Austrian branch in Vienna is the ultimate driving force in company’s research and development activities and counts as innovative competence centre specializing in mechatronics. Presently more than 550 employees are working in Vienna, about 30% in R&D. In Vienna high-tech products are developed from the very first draft to start of production.

The branch in Vienna is one of the main production sites with core competencies in Orthobionic® as well as Bionicmobility®. Vienna provides a strong tradition for medical research and therefore offers fruitful co operations for scientific institutes.

From Vienna comes a sensational new development in medical technology - a neurally controlled arm prosthesis DynamicArm Plus. The project was based on an interdisciplinary collaboration with the Vienna General Hospital and the city’s Medical University. The new prosthesis allows users to use more active joints, which can also be controlled simultaneously. No rethinking is required, as was previously the case with conventional prosthetics. The user makes movements intuitively, and the prosthesis is able to convert these thought commands directly into movement.

Before being fitted, a user must undergo a complex operation called Targeted Muscle Reinnervation in which nerves are relocated. Prosthesis Michelangelo Hand and the Bionic Prosthetic System Genium are innovations which were developed and are produced at Ottobock in Vienna.

Ottobock is constantly striving to develop innovative products that give people with disabilities more independence, freedom of movement and better overall quality of life.
